The Sony Xperia S-What We Think Of Screen And Design On This Model by Emma Rosher
The 2012 CES show is currently in full swing and we are starting to get a glimpse into what new models to expect from smartphone manufacturers over the coming months. One of the first big phone releases announced was the new Sony Xperia S, a powerful smartphone packed full of great features. We take a look at the design of this model and also the screen technology that it uses.
In terms of design it appears that Sony have decided against being too experimental with this new model. The design is very attractive but does not look very different from some of the excellent Arc devices that we were treated to in 2011. The phone sports a glossy black finish together with a slim and angular design rather than the curves that are favoured by many manufacturers. The Xperia S does stand out from its rivals thanks to a clear strip that runs through the phone just beneath the screen. This strip is illuminated by three touch sensitive buttons that are positioned just above and this makes the visual side of the phone very appealing. Although we have no exact dimensions at present the phone is one of the slimmer smartphones available although it is not in the same league as the likes of the Motorola Razr in this department.
The Sony Xperia S may not win any awards for its design but one area where the model really does impress is with the screen technology that it incorporates. The display measures 4.3 inches which puts the model in the same league as the HTC Sensation XE and the model certainly packs the quality to outshine the HTC in this area. Although the display does not use AMOLED technology the LCD screen benefits from a new Sony Bravia picture engine that make all images look incredibly clear. This clarity is also helped by the high 720 x 1280 resolution that the device can show. A combination of all of these factors makes the Xperia S one of the most impressive phones for screen performance that we have ever looked at. Home screen icons look crystal clear and the screen is also perfect for viewing multi media files. A number of applications are available that enable you to stream High Quality movies directly to the device or you could opt to view footage you have recorded yourself on the high quality 1080P video camera that is also included in the package.
The Sony Xperia S is a great looking mobile phone that makes use of an extremely impressive display. If Sony continue to release models of this quality over the next twelve months then 2012 could prove to be a very good year for them.
